MARINA – After police conducted an “exhaustive search” Monday night, police lifted a shelter-in-place order for students at Cal State Monterey Bay.

According to a press release from the Marina police, officers responded to reports of possible shots fired around 6:40 p.m. “in reference to an attempted carjacking” near 5th Avenue and 8th Street, which is near a CSUMB student housing complex.

An alert went out to students just before 8 p.m. Monday at Cal State Monterey Bay saying an “act of violence incident has occurred” and advising them to seek indoor shelter in a safe and secure room.

Officers saw a male fleeing on foot from the area and were able to arrest him. The suspect was taken to Monterey County Jail and expected to be arraigned on charge of attempted carjacking, possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting/delaying officers and violation of probation.

The surrounding areas were searched for any additional subjects and/or weapons, before the shelter-in-place was lifted at about 9 p.m.

The Marina Police Department is actively investigating this crime. They would also like to encourage anyone who has information on the possible suspect(s), to call Marina Police immediately at (831) 384-7575.
