SALINAS – A burglary at a cannabis greenhouse outside of Salinas early Monday morning led to the arrest of eight adults and one juvenile.

At around 3:40 a.m. on Monday, Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies received a report of that around 10 individuals had broken into the greenhouse facility on Encinal Road and were loading bags of marijuana into four cars.

Minutes after responding, Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies along with officers from the Salinas Police Department and California Highway Patrol were able to locate the four vehicles around Encinal Road and Old Stage Road.

All vehicles failed to yield to law enforcement, however officers were able to stop three of the four cars.

One car drove into a field where it became stuck, while another drove into a ditch. A third car was stopped after colliding with a CHP vehicle. The fourth car managed to escape.

Multiple people fled the three stopped vehicles and officers were able to apprehend a total of nine suspects – one minor and eight adults – the adults ranging in age from 18 to 30. The suspects were determined to be from San Francisco, Oakland, Antioch and Fremont.

The eight adults were booked into the Monterey County Jail, and the juvenile was booked into Monterey County Juvenile Hall for charges including burglary, conspiracy to commit a felony, possession of stolen property, possession of loaded firearm, among others.

According to Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, this is an ongoing investigation and detectives are asking members of the public to contact them with any information that could assist in identifying the additional subjects.
