PACIFIC GROVE – A Pacific Grove High school girls basketball coach was arrested Sunday and relieved of his duties in connection with an investigation involving alleged sexual misconduct with a minor.
Marquis Pickrom, a 37-year-old from Seaside, was taken into custody Sunday evening without incident and booked into Monterey County Jail for counts of sexual assault of a minor under the age of 18, and annoying or molesting a child.
According to the Pacific Grove Police Department, the victim reported being groomed by Pickrom from ages 16 to 18, starting when Pickrom became the basketball coach. The victim reported that Pickrom gave her special attention, made personal and romantic comments and primarily communicated with her through Instagram messages. The victim reported that in July 2025, Pickrom kissed her and touched her in a sexual manner.
The victim reportedly told a few close friends, then the matter was reported to Pacific Grove High School staff, who got the police involved. Pickrom was immediately relieved of his coaching position.
