GONZALES – The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office announced they have arrested a Gonzales man and will be charging him with the killing of his wife Friday after he called 911 to report a medical emergency, just outside the Gonzales city limits.

According to a press release from the Sheriff, Pablo Villasenor, 66, told emergency dispatchers that his wife was bleeding and that he did not know how it happened. Sheriff’s deputies responding to the call found 60 year-old Carmen Vega Tapia with severe lacerations.

Though fire and ambulance personnel attempted life-saving procedures, Vega Tapia succumbed to her injuries on-scene.

Detectives observed that Villasenor was also bleeding and had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

After his release from the hospital, Villasenor was detained and transported to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office for questioning.

Upon further investigation at the scene of the incident, detectives recovered a firearm and knife, both believed to have been used in the incident.

Villasenor was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail. The incident remains under active investigation. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information related to the incident to contact them.
