Catherine O’Shaughnessy Nolan OBITUARY

After a long and fulfilling life, Catherine O’Shaughnessy Nolan passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on August 17, 2023. The youngest of ten children, Catherine was born on a farm in Woodbury Township Iowa to James Joseph O’Shaughnessy and Helen Marie Meade O’Shaughnessy on June 20, 1937. She attended Heelan High School in Sioux City until her family moved to Long Beach, Ca. She graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1955 and then attended Long Beach State University. She met her future husband, Frederick Nolan, while working in his brother’s camera shop. Frederick and Catherine were married on December 26, 1956 at Holy Innocents Church in Long Beach. They settled in Carmel where they raised their four children, later relocating to Monterey where they resided for 30 years. Catherine was active in the Junipero Serra School Mother’s Club and co-led a girl scout troop for a number of years. She had a talent for interior decorating and floral arranging and won a number of awards at the Monterey County Fair. She returned to work as her children grew and spent 15 years as a Credit Manager at the Lodge at Pebble Beach. Frederick and Catherine enjoyed traveling and visited England, France, Singapore, and Australia over the years. Family was Catherine’s focus and she enjoyed welcoming each new spouse and grandchild into the family. She was a loving, caring, and fun mother who loved to laugh and spend time with her family. She is deeply missed every day. She is survived by her four children, Delia (Roland) Nolan Merrick, Laura (Kurt) Miller, Linda (Brad) Ill, and Jack (Julie) Nolan and five grandsons and one granddaughter.
