Susan “Sue” Carole Netzorg OBITUARY
Susan “Sue” Carole Netzorg (nee Anson), 75, passed away peacefully in her Monterey home on December 23, 2025, surrounded by her family, ending a stoic, courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Portland, Oregon, she grew up developing a love for cooking and baking from her mother, enjoyed camping adventures with family and relatives, and played the flute and piano. She attended Oregon State University, where she met her husband-to-be, Gregory Netzorg, with whom she shared her life for the next 55 years. She was a devout Naval officer’s wife, moving the household several times, mother of 2, always hard working, often juggling multiple jobs to keep the kids in horseback riding lessons, and generous to all. While completing their final Naval assignment in Monterey, she began a multi-decade career at the Naval Postgraduate School, retiring in 2017. Her position at NPS introduced her to the annual IEEE Asilomar conference, which she helped coordinate and run for more than a decade.
Sue was passionate about animals, tirelessly collecting items to donate to the SPCA, and had special interests in puffins and horses. As a gift from her family, she adopted a puffin and enjoyed annual updates over the past 20 years about her puffin’s adventures. Her love of horses and riding was passed through the generations, with many learning to ride, compete, and own horses. Her children, Ken and Kay, shared many grand adventures with mom, hauling the horse trailer and traveling to horse shows throughout their childhood.
In her later years, she enjoyed wine tasting in Monterey and Napa Valley, cruising the world with Greg, and special times with family at reunions, cousins’ getaways, and traveling between the West and East Coasts to be with her children and grandchildren. She will leave behind many memories of good times with friends and family, recipes, and tips for a great glass of wine.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Greg; her brother, Larry Anson (Annette); her children, Ken Netzorg (Erika) and Kay Sorenson (Thom); and her beloved granddaughters, Mikayla, Eliza, and Lelia. She was preceded in death by her parents, with her mother passing away only weeks earlier at the age of 101.
A celebration of Sue’s life will be held in the summer of 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Monterey County SPCA in her honor.
