SAN FRANCISCO – Steph Curry will be a starter for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, the league announced on Monday morning.
It is Curry’s 12th All-Star nod and 11th start, making him one of only 17 players to earn a dozen appearances in the game with a single franchise. His 12 selections are the most in Warriors history.
That also ties him with legends such as Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Hakeem Olajuwon, Michael Jordan and Oakland native Bill Russell for number of appearances.
The Warriors superstar joins Lakers guardLuka Doncic, reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Thunder, Nikola Jokic of the Nuggets and Victor Wembanyama of the Spurs as the Western Conference starters for the Feb. 15 event. Representing the East in the starting lineup were Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo, New York’s Jalen Brunson, Detroit’s Cade Cunningham, Philadelphia’s Tyrese Maxey and Boston’s Jaylen Brown.
The format won’t pit those groups against each other, though, as it will be a three-team, round-robin tournament of 12-minute mini-games, with the top two teams advancing to a championship game.
During last season’s game at Chase Center, Curry earned the event’s Kobe Bryant Most Valuable Player Award.
His selection is far from a lifetime achievement award, though.
Curry is averaging 27.6 points, 4.9 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game while ranking second in 3-pointers made (149) and being second in free throw percentage (93.1%).
Despite being just a couple of months away from turning 38, Curry is still capable of scoring in a flurry as few players can. He has scored at least 40 in four different games, in the process breaking Michael Jordan’s previous record for the most 40-point games after turning 30 (44).
“I can’t think of anybody at that age playing better,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said on Monday. “I know Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar) played well late in his career, obviously LeBron (James), but I can’t imagine anybody playing better at this age than Steph. He’s been amazing all year, and I’m glad he’s being rewarded for it.”
He has also scored at least 30 points nine different times this season, and the Warriors are just 4-6 in games where Curry does not play.
Curry has continued to climb the NBA’s all-time scoring list, recently surpassing the great Kevin Garnett for 21st with 26,298, and is on pace to surpass John Havlicek (26,395) in the next few games to crack the top 20.
Entering Monday’s matchup with the Heat, Curry was just 25 3-point attempts from becoming the first player in NBA history to attempt 10,000 shots from behind the arc in a career. Curry has made a 3-pointer in his last 82 games, the longest such streak in the NBA.
The history-making did not stop there. On Jan. 3, Steph and Dell Curry surpassed Dolph and Danny Schayes for the most combined games by a father-son duo with 2,135.
The Warriors are currently 24-19 and have won five of their last six games while on an eight-game homestand.
It is yet to be seen if Curry will participate in an eighth 3-point shooting competition, a challenge he has won twice. Curry also competed against Walnut Creek native and WNBA superstar Sabrina Ionescu in a 3-point shootout.
It is also to be determined if Curry will be joined by any of his teammates in the game at the Los Angeles Clippers’ home arena.
Jimmy Butler is the other probable choice if a second Warrior were to make the game, although Butler has made it clear he would rather rest during that time than be a part of the festivities.
Warriors’ injuries
Draymond Green was ruled out for Monday’s game against the Heat with a right ankle sprain. Joining him in street clothes were Gui Santos (left ankle sprain) and De’Anthony Melton (injury management). Jimmy Butler, who missed Saturday’s win over Charlotte for personal reasons, is not on the injury report and is expected to play against his former team.
