Having to work his way back into the rotation after missing part of the off-season while waiting to be cleared to play, Jeff Weimer has put together a strong second half for the West Virginia football team.
Granted clearance by a federal judge in West Virginia to be allowed a seventh year of college football, Weimer leads the 4-7 Mountaineers in yards per catch at 20.4.
In his last four games, the Salinas graduate has caught 11 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns, giving him 15 receptions for 308 yards on the season.
Weimer’s college career has taken him through two junior colleges and three Division I teams, along with a redshirt, a medical redshirt and a COVID-19 season.
Last fall Weimer caught 75 passes for 1,106 yards at Idaho State, just the ninth player in school history to record over 1,000 receiving yards, earning all-conference honors.
Transferring to West Virginia, the NCAA declared that Weimer’s eligibility was up, until a federal judge overruled the decision last August.
Weimer, who helped Salinas to a 2017 Central Coast Section Division I championship, earned all-American honors while at City College of San Francisco. He also spent a year at Hartnell.
