Earning a captain position this past fall, sophomore Lorenzo Avalos started 12 matches for the Villanova soccer team.

The Salinas native produced his first collegiate goal, while adding an assist for the Wildcats, who tripled their win total from the previous two years combined.

Avalos, who played six years as a youth for the San Jose Earthquakes Academy before earning a scholarship to Villanova, has started 19 of the 21 matches he has appeared in.

In 12 starts this past fall, the 6-foot-1 Avalos played every minute of each match, logging over 1,100 minutes on the pitch.

With two years of college eligibility left, Avalos hopes to play over the summer for Monterey Bay FC2.
