Former Stevenson four-sport standout and 2022 Herald Male Athlete of the Year Evan Johnson has intercepted four passes this fall for nationally ranked Brigham Young University.

The redshirt junior shares the team lead in interceptions and leads the Cougars in pass breakups with five.

The 6-foot defensive back is in the top eight on the team in tackles with 40, 34 of which are solo tackles, along with his first collegiate sack.

Johnson, who holds the Monterey County record in the 100 meters at 10.41, recorded a career high two interceptions in one game earlier this year, returning one for a pick six.

Having changed his number from 21 to 0 this fall, Johnson has six career interceptions at BYU, and 58 tackles in 30 career games.

Johnson earned all-county honors in football and basketball at Stevenson, and moonlighted on the baseball team, while shattering school records in the 100- and 200-meter sprints in track.
